Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up- Kigali city & transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

Following breakfast at your hotel/lodge in Kigali, the driver guide from Lake Bunyonyi Rock Resort will be right there to pick you up. He/she will first brief you on what to expect on this safari, the activities to do and destinations to visit.  You will then go for a guided city tour through Kigali. Ranked as the cleanest city in Africa, Kigali has a lot to offer. The clean streets, hospitable people and beautiful structures make this place exceptional. Visit some ley tourist places in the city Centre such as the Presidential palace, Kigali genocide memorial Centre, Inema art gallery and Kimironko market among others. If you want to do some personal shopping, Kigali city has the best shopping malls for you.

Day 2: Mountain gorilla trekking experience

Early today, rise up and after heavy breakfast transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National park. Report to the respective park headquarters in Bwindi Forest where you will be registered and briefed on the dos and don’ts of this experience.  You will be put in groups of eight and allocated one gorilla family to trek. The park management will also assign you two armed rangers to escort you this trek.  You will then transfer to the starting pint and the actual adventure begins. Hike up and down hill through dense forests in search for the gorillas. You will definitely get tired but its all worth it. Make sure you have enough bottled drinking water and snacks to keep you strong and going when the trek gets tougher. The ranger guides will help you slash a narrow path through the forest. On meeting the gorillas, the rangers will alert you! Keep a distance end enjoy this lifetime encounter. You will be allowed to spend an hour with gorillas taking pictures and enjoying how these endangered primates interact with each other.  A face-to-face encounter with gorillas is ranked the best wildlife experience in the world. Later on, transfer back to Lake Bunyonyi Rock Resort for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Relax at Lake Bunyonyi

Spend this whole day chilling on the shores of Lake Bunyonyi. Enjoy the beautiful views of Lake Bunyonyi on the balcony of your room at Lake Bunyonyi Rock Resort. You can take part in any of the optional activities on Lake Bunyonyi such as nature walking, photography, visit the black smith and go swimming (the lake is crocodile and bilharzia free).

Day 4: Boat cruising & Nyombe swamp walk

Enjoy your morning sleep and wakeup to up a relaxed sunrise breakfast on the shores of Lake Bunyonyi. Thereafter, go for a boat cruise to explore different islands of Lake Bunyonyi and to enjoy the fresh air and cold breezes. In the afternoon go for guided nature walk in Nyombe swamp, which harbor a variety of many birds and animals. A nature walk gives you a fresh feeling of a natural environment. Local guides will help you spot some medicinal herbs, which cure different illness among Bakiga people.

Day 5: Optional Batwa cultural tour  & Departure

Today morning, you can do an optional visit to batwa communities for a cultural performance. Batwa pygmies are also called “forest people” who lived in the forests of Bwindi and Mgahinga for 1000s of years. These were evicted from gorilla parks after the introduction of gorilla tourism and conservation.  Batwa will tell you their traditional forest life an how they live peacefully with wild animals. Traditional dances and songs will also be performed to welcome and entertain you.  Have breakfast at your lodge, check out and transfer to Kigali.
