1 Day Mount Gahinga Hike

The one-day Mount Gahinga hike is an adventure package to conquer one of the 8 volcanoes in the Virunga Conservation Area. Standing at 3,474 meters above the sea level, Mount Gahinga is the smallest volcano located in Mgahinga Gorilla National park on the borders of Rwanda and Uganda. The volcano is therefore best for the unfit and elderly travelers. The slopes of the volcano are covered by bamboo and alpine forests which shelter mountain gorillas, golden monkeys, colobus monkeys and other primates which are normally seen by travelers hiking. The average time to hike Mount Gahinga is roughly 6 hours based on the travelers hiking abilities and mental preparedness. The summit of Mount Gahinga shelters a large shallow crater swamp. Enjoy the charming views of the neighboring Mount Sabyinyo and Mount Muhabura whose summits you will see very close to you. Detailed Itinerary

Following early breakfast at Lake Bunyonyi Rock Resort, setoff transferring to Mgahinga gorilla National park for Mount Gahinga hiking experience. You will assemble at the briefing point at Ntebeko Visitor information Centre for hiking safety tips and guidelines. From there, start off the adventure guided by the armed park ranger. Trek through different vegetation zones ascending to the summit at 3,474 meters. You might meet up with different wild animals, birds and insects on your trek to the summit. Enjoy scenic views of Mount Sabyinyo, Mount Muhabura, Mgahinga Gorilla Park, Volcanoes Park, Virunga Park and other volcanoes in the Virunga Conservation Area. Take pictures, capture videos and enjoy the natural beauty. You will then hike down and transfer to the airport or the resort.
